Scripture: Hebrews 7:23-25

Subject: "Someone You Can Depend On"

INTRODUCTION: In this seventh chapter of Hebrews the writer presents us with Jesus the Christ as our Great High Priest. The Hebrew writer compares Christ to Melchizedek, king of Salem; priest of the Most High God and the sons of Levi, the Levitical priests.

All that the sacred historians revel about Melchizedek can be found in Genesis chapter fourteen. The Scriptures would have us to know that Melchizedek bestowed upon Abraham a double blessing and in each portion of it he prefigures the Christ .

Melchizedek blessed Abraham, the father of faith, with a double blessing; for he blessed him both physically and spiritually. And the good news of the gospel is that by that same faith; faith brings the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

By faith in Jesus the Christ, our Great High Priest, we can receive a double blessing just like Abraham; for God through Christ wants to bless us both physically and spiritually.
