The Success That Failed/Part 3

Pastor's Sermon Points 08/20/2017

Scripture Text: Genesis 13:12-13; Genesis 19:1-2; 15-16 NLT

Subject: "The Success That Failed / Part 3"

Introduction: In today's text we find both the beginning and the ending of the trilogy as shared in God's Holy Word of the Abram - Lot stories. Unlike the stories we like to read and tell, this story does not portray a happy ending.

It's a story that mirrors or reflects the attitude of far too many people that have walked on earth down through the ages and even those today. It is a more tragic story than most care to admit because it is a story symbolic of what happens when men chose earthly pleasure and temporal success over the promise of God's eternal heavenly inheritance.

It is a story of how what is considered to be success in the eyes of man can end in total failure in the eyesight of God. It is a story of how the Spirit is always at war with the sinful nature of man and how the flesh too often wins over those who are not walking up close and personal with God.

It is a story of how Satan uses the subtle seductions of Sodom to sabotage the saintly standards set forth by a loving yet Sovereign God. Church as true servants of the Lord, we must be on constant alert against the subtle ways the enemy uses to divert us from God's purpose and plan for our lives.

Peter speaks a word of caution to every believer in the house today for he writes: "Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."
